January 31st, 2010

Hello all! I guess I have some explaining to do. I know I haven’t posted since last Wednesday, other than the blog carnival, but for good reason. Here in Oklahoma, we had a mini ice/snow storm. We haven’t really had power, so I haven’t bee to make any posts whatsoever. My focus has been more on survival and staying warm. » Read more: Snow Storm the Past Few Days

Site Build It: Day 12

December 12th, 2009

I never really planned to do a complete day-to-day cover of my progress, but I felt today was a good day to update. I haven’t really been doing much work with SBI because I’ve been busy with dead week and finals coming up; I have three exams this coming Monday. My head has been occupied elsewhere. I have though, come up with a really good idea that I’d like to start, I guess you can say another blog. I feel kind of weird admitting that I want to start another blog, but I think this one will do a lot of good. » Read more: Site Build It: Day 12

Create Genuine Content: Solve My Problem!

December 4th, 2009

Successful bloggers have always told us, “if you want to be successful, you need to create genuine content for readers to enjoy, FOR FREE 99!” The free part is the easiest since it takes all of five minutes to start a blog and begin posting, but what about the first part, the genuine content part. “How do I know I’ve created genuine content, I mean I spend time writing these posts and no one seems interested in reading them.” Readers don’t really care how much time you spend writing, if it’s not interesting to them, it’s not interesting. Before I continue, let’s break down the process of reading in general. » Read more: Create Genuine Content: Solve My Problem!

Can’t Fake Leadership

December 4th, 2009

I’ve never had more of a learning experience than being president of my chapter. There has never been a time where I have pushed myself so much to grow. I’ve learned so many things about so many subjects like relationships, communication, leadership, organization, time management, courage and even success. Those topics hardly make up a full list though. » Read more: Can’t Fake Leadership

Site Build It: Day 2

December 2nd, 2009

There is an absolute plethora of information offered. It is a very in depth step-by-step process and it’s actually split up into 10 days. I like how they emphasize going at your own pace and not trying to do everything at once, in one day. You can bet I’m taking my time just so I can ingest all of the information. » Read more: Site Build It: Day 2

May Experience Some Down Time

November 30th, 2009

One thing I’ve realized ever since I started this site was how I hated doing all of the optimizations and marketing. I understand that it’s necessary and so, I do it. I just absolutely hate fusing with it and knowing that I will have to continue to expand my knowledge and keep it in my life makes me a bit annoyed. Leveraging my resources, I’ve decided to pass this responsibility on to someone else, who is competent in this area. » Read more: May Experience Some Down Time

When You Take Over Your Learning

June 28th, 2009

A few years back, I had a blog that I used just for fun. My friends and I would post things and we would comment back and fourth. Sometimes they would be funny jokes, sometimes funny videos, sometimes just pulling each others’ legs; it was fun. It was a great experience because I learned a lot about the blogsphere in general. My focus back then was just to create another way to connect with my friends and I was able to build a pretty solid blogging foundation.

Compared to this blog, my focus has become something much more. I have set out to reach as many people as I can and help them better their lives. A bit more complicated than my old focus, but nonetheless, with a different focus comes different lessons to be learned. I have educated myself on many different things, one of them being marketing.

With my search on marketing, SEO, etc., I’ve read a lot of different blogs with a lot of different content. It has been a bit of a disappointment to me because I have nto felt I have found valuable content that is relevant to me. I was looking for ways to make my content more available, but all I got were low level methods of marketing low level quality.

It occured to me that I was at the end of my rope and I needed to let my experiments be my teachers. When you begin developing a skill in depth, you get to a point where the only person that can teach you success if yourself. Successful bloggers have lessons that cannot be understood by those who don’t have the battle experience. The only solution is hands-on learning, where you take charge of your learning and expand your knowledge without someone to hold your hand. it is akin to when a parent let’s their child into the real world to take care of themselves.

When it comes to blogging, I feel like I’ve hit that point, where all I can do is experiment and learn from failure. As frustrated as I was initially, the realization I came to was much more satisfying. What may seem to be a setback was actually an indicator of my growth as a blogger. I have advanced enough to go off on my own and make a name for myself. My level of blogging has reached beyond the scope of an average blogger and I’m on my way to effective distribution of value that can help others transform their lives.

I know now that I am on the path I set out to find and that in itself shows the job is done. Now this is where I have fun enjoying myself on this path and exploring its depths.

Everyone will reach a point where they becom etheir own teachers. This is a part of mastery of a skill. You’ve built a foundation and now you have an opportunity to learn and even contribute to the advancement of the skill by discovering something new to be shared. Think of it as the beginning to your doctorial program. It is your rite of passage to contribute back to the community that has given to you.

Before you know it, you’ll be teaching others the foundation you were taught. Just as quickly, you will be letting your students have the opportunity of exploring the world you’ve acquainted them to; the great passage of wisdom through generations. As a society, it is one of our greatest strengths.

Be grateful if you’ve found yourself in the real world of your skill. You are on your way to greatness. Don’t pass it up.

Fitness Update

June 25th, 2009

Last Wednesday I began a Shaolin Kung Fu training program. I purchased a dvd called Shaolin Workout – Volume 1 Beginners about a year or so ago and finally decided to actually use it. I’ve done the exercises before, but this is the first time I am using it consistently.

I decided to exercise once a day, Monday through Friday, with Saturday and Sunday being my breaks. (I think eventually I’ll be reserving Saturday and Sunday for Tai Chi exercise.)

Since I’ve started, I’ve done seven sessions, including today and I have to say it’s been quite an experience. Before, I think the reason why I didn’t keep up with it because I only did it every other day. My fitness was growing slowly and since the dvd is hard, it became a chore to do. Now that I’m doing it five days a week, I’ve been able to build my fitness much more quickly and of course, I feel strong, energetic and lively.

I didn’t realize until my first session weak and untrained I actually was. It was so hard and I didn’t even finish it. I wanted to just quit, but I decided to keep going and after the third session, I noticed it became so much easier. I’ve finished the dvd my last four sessions and learned a lot of kung fu.

Essentially I’m spending about an hour and ten minutes exercising five days out of the week and I’m always sweating after each workout. At the end of last week, friends have asked me if I’ve been losing weight and I’ve noticed today that my body composition has been training. It’s been most noticeable in my core; too bad it hasn’t seemed that my breasts have noticed that I’ve been working out. I haven’t been recording my weight and I don’t have body caliphers to track my body fat percentage, but as soon as I get a scale, I’ll be doing that. It’s kind of hard to take BFP myself and I don’t have anyone at this immediate time, every day, who is trained and can get an accurate reading. When it comes to losing weight, tracking it via BFP is the most effective way because then you know whether or not your losing fat or losing muscle. What I will be doing is going to the gym and getting my BFP done. I’m thinking at the beginning of each month.

I’ve noticed so much improvement that I’m considering making this permanent and relaxing my running regimes. I don’t feel as motivated to run marathons, when I have more fun doing kung fu, something I’ve wanted to do ever since I was little. I’ve always had an inkling to do some sort of martial art but was never able to because I could never get the funding. Now that I’m making time to spend about an hour and thirty minutes each day to exercise and recover, why not do something that’s fun and you enjoy. Heck, before I know, I’ll be purchasing nearly every single one of Yan Lei’s instructional DVD’s. There are so many fascinating ones that I want to give a go eventually, so adapting this training program for the rest of my life sounds like a very good long-term decision.

The only down side is that since you are purchasing the DVD’s from the UK, with the conversion rate and shipping, you’ll be paying a pretty penny, but now that I’m actually using it and seeing results, it was worth every penny. There is no price for self-benefit. Don’t feel bad about investing money and time into yourself, because you’re the most worthy person of your own time and attention.

I’ll be posting periodic updates when I feel inspired. Hopefully, at the very least, this motivates you to start some sort of exercise regimen. This is the rest of your life we’re talking about, try to at least keep your body fit and your mind sharp. It’s one of the best gifts you can give yourself.
